The parking lot of this house in Val-des-Monts was not well designed in terms of slope layout. A large amount of rainwater was heading towards the house. Water accumulations near the foundation caused infiltration. The low point in front of the garage door did not have an effective drainage system. The solution of the problem consisted of a work of earthworks.
Laying a drainage pipe
The installation of a perforated drain in front of the garage door was the solution. This drain connected to the existing drainage system with a “Y” connection serves as a new water outlet.
To install this exit, an excavation was necessary. In the presence of rocky terrain, it was inevitable to use a hydraulic hammer to build the trench.
The entire parking lot has been redone by replacing the embankment to make the foundation solid. Without a solid foundation, parking will suffer the consequences of the force of the frost.
The levelling of the land has been designed to direct the water to the right place and thus avoid further water infiltration. A compaction of the material was carried out to prevent surface erosion and any movement due to the weight of the vehicles.
A pavement for the parking lot was eventually installed the following year.
