A repair carried out on the north shore of Montrealin Laval. Following the excavation, many problems were identified at the foundation level. There were many cracks, some quite large. Active cracks required appropriate repair with the installation of steel plates to prevent movement.
Protection of the sole
Because one section of the sole was heavily exposed to frost, it sustained significant damage. When a sole is covered by a small amount of fill the gel penetrates easily, so thermal protection is required. In addition to the repair work, insulation panels have been installed.
Garage slab and gutter
Partially damaged, the concrete slab of the garage was repaired with high-strength concrete. A new high-end gutter manufactured by Aco has been precisely installed for optimal stormwater evacuation.
Protecting the foundation
Finally, a drainage system and waterproof protection were installed along the foundation. A work of levelling the whole ground was done to conclude the work. These are essential preventive measures to avoid problems in the future. One of the floor repairs in Ottawa is an example of a situation where the lack of a French drain and good waterproofing caused significant cracks.
