Repair of a
near Gatineau in Ottawa. As we cover the entire Ottawa region, we are open to moving to the national capital next door. The crack was located on the wall on the side of the adjoining line. Space was limited, but VOPAA Inc.’s equipment was limited. is adapted to this kind of situation.
Preparing the excavation site
Cedars were found where it was necessary to excavate, preventing the passage of the mini excavator. With the customer’s consent, we removed them. In this type of situation, the VOPAA Team Inc. attempts to keep them for replanting at the end of the work.
Water was seeping into the basement of this house through a major crack. Intervention was needed to stop this infiltration and prevent the crack from gaining momentum. Here are the steps before the direct intervention:
- Excaver from the area concerned
- Clean foundation section
- Assess the entire crack
After a full assessment of the crack, the client was advised to install steel plates to prevent the crack from increasing and repairing. These steel plates bolted to the foundation will help prevent any movement.
- Cut the crack into a “V”
- Insert mechanical anchors
- Butchering the crack with concrete
- Install the steel plate
Finally, we connected maintenance chimneys to the existing French drain and did earthwork work. The slope had to be shaped with the building a few metres away to avoid directing the water towards it.
